Looks like Google is finally catching up - Introducing Willow and AI updates from other players
Been a while since I last wrote here, how have you been doing?
Incase you are wondering where I have been busy, I started a new job 🌻
If you are looking for jobs, 2025 might be a better year. But, remember that we are never going back to the covid era, and you need to put 10x effort to land a good offer.
Now, back to updates. Some of the highlights that I could find are:
GitHub announced a generous free tier for everyone. Developers online have mixed opinions. Some believe it will harm our coding skills, while others think it will help improve them. What do you think?
Google now has Willow, a quantum chip. Quantum computing is rocket science to me, so I am open to all of your thoughts on what you think about it.
OpenAI did a 12 days release, did you all checkout the updates? (I honestly lost track), but my favourite one was the unlimited Sora access.
But first, tech drama 🍿
This year has been filled with a lot of tech drama, and in my opinion, it keeps getting scarier.
Starting with the OpenAI whistleblower, who was a researcher was found dead in his apartment. We don’t know if it is a case of foul play or racism (look up brown people recent killings), but it is indeed very scary.
ElevenLabs got rid of all titles and now has a flat hierarchy. People say this change will set them up for success, while others believe it will lead to failure. What do you think?
Design inspirations
I have recently been fascinated by the “design engineering” job role, and while I may not switch gears right now, I am having fun reading about and soaking in all the designs.
Here are some:

➡️ I don’t know what to call this, but this is COOL.
➡️ Fun way to add headshots
Miscellaneous resources

Tried out a new AI tool called Findr, and so far, I like it! If you are looking for something that can act as your memory, and help organise, search, and utilise information scattered across apps, social bookmarks, notes, thoughts, and files, then THIS IS THE TOOL.
Found this really interesting resource on how to build an app by the @enggirlfriend. If you are looking to build more in 2025, bookmark this doc.
And that's a wrap for this week! See you next Monday!
Until then, tell your friends in DevRel who are working at startups that I wrote an eBook just for them!
